The actor also points out that the “sheer number” of award functions in India lessen the importance that an award should have.

After doing bit parts in films, finally found his footing in B-town with films like Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012), and The Lunchbox (2013), among others. While his acting prowess received critical acclaim, he rues the fact that deserving actors are often not awarded in Bollywood.

“I am not talking only about myself; I feel a number of actors do a great job, but they aren’t awarded appropriately for their work,” says Nawazuddin.

The actor also points out that the “sheer number” of award functions in India lessen the importance that an award should have. “There are so many of them [in Bollywood] that the sense of pride and gratification which you should feel on getting an award, is hardly there,” he adds.

The actor is, however, content with his recently-bagged international honour. He received the Outstanding Achievement award at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival in the US. “I am kicked about it. When you win an award at an international platform, it goes on to prove that your work is being appreciated across the globe. As an actor, it’s a very heartening feeling,” shares Nawazuddin.
