Films on alternate sexuality finds a prominent place in the package of films screened at the 35th International Film Festival of India here.

More than half a dozen films including those from France, Portugal, Canada and India have drawn the subject out of the closet.

The Portugese package has two films dealing with the theme of alternate sexuality. Root of the Heart revolves around a charismatic and unscrupulous politician who is obsessed with Silvia, a young transvestite.

Directed by Paulo Rocha and scripted by Jeanne Walts and Paulo, the film captures Vincente, a police officer, who harasses transvestite and how the politician Canton risks his career to fight for Silvia.

The second Portugese film Adam and Eve directed by Joaquim Leitao, tells the story of a bisexual reporter Catarina Menezes.

The retrospective section on Taiwanese films also features two films based on alternate sexuality.

Formula 17, which talks about a 17-year-old boy who arrives in Taipei and Goodbye Dragon, directed by Tsai Ming-Liang, about a Japanese man who drops into a cinema house looking for a gay encounter.
