A source close to the Blurred Lines hit maker told Us Magazine that the couple's marriage had been unraveling for a long time, but it got even rockier after the controversial performance.
The insider claimed that the 36-year-old singer had asked Patton to help him out as a friend and a wife and defend his performance with Cyrus.
Thicke begged Patton to speak out for him and be there for him, and she agreed to be the good wife, the source asserted.
The insider added that Thicke had asked Patton to stick with him through awards season and she attended the Grammys with him as a favour.
The couple recently announced their separation in a joint statement.
