Gift shops such as Archie’s have gift items such as wine bottle case or a golf putting set for R80,000. Gourmet dining is also not limited to the elite now. “Youngsters don’t mind spending a fortune on food packages,” says Surender Singh Thakur, F&B director, The Imperial.

Expensive spa sessions also are a hit among the young, says Alka Katar, spa director, Radisson Hotel.
