Pink soda adds fizz to fashion

Kanika and Shivali have launched the label named The Pink Soda Company. Name is catchy and colourful, says Kanika.

When Shivali Jaggi went out shopping (her favourite pastime) during her British School days, she realised most of what she liked was either too expensive or too common. So, after IILM, she decided to team up with her friend of eight years, Pearl Academy graduate Kanika Khanna.

“We decided to call our label The Pink Soda Company. It was catchy, colourful and described our design philosophy,” says Khanna. “Pink is our in-house label and Soda is the imported stuff from Dubai and Canada.”

Khanna, a CJM product, along with Jaggi launched their boutique at A-280, New Friends Colony recently. They believe in affordable style. “I hate to repeat my clothes, and I know many like me who want to look snazzy at all times. Our label offers only one piece in a design, so it’s exclusive,” says Jaggi.

The twentythree-year-olds are targeting women between the 16-28 years who want variety in their wardrobes. “We are quite inspired by designer Malini Ramani. She in fact is our muse. She embodies free spirit, hippie chic and no-frill clothes that we are attempting to design. Plus, if you add a dash of affordability then you have a very successful formula in place,” says Khanna.

Mostly designing western wear like halters, mini skirts, embroidered trousers in bright psychedelic colours, both designers believe you must have good taste to be able to dress people. “We could have taken the short route by going to Bangkok (tickets are cheap), and picking up stuff, but we decided to give quality at a great price,” says Khanna.

Now hoping to establish their label in the Capital and then expand to Mumbai, the duo has kept the price range between Rs 499 and Rs 1,499. “You are born with a sense of style. No degree can help you understand the aesthetics. You must be a lover of clothes, that’s all that matters,” says Jaggi.
