Happy birthday Dhanush: Next film with Karthick Naren titled Maaran, see poster

The team behind Dhanush's next movie, Maaran, had released a new poster on the actor's birthday. It shows him smashing someone's face into glass.

Actor Dhanush’s upcoming Tamil film with director Karthick Naren has been titled Maaran. The title was announced on Wednesday on the occasion of the star’s birthday. The film’s makers took to Twitter to announce the film’s title and shared the first look poster.

The project marks the maiden collaboration between Dhanush and Karthick Naren. The poster features Dhanush smashing someone’s face into glass. He is also seen holding a knife in one hand.

The film stars Malavika Mohanan as the leading lady. It’ll be the first time Malavika will star opposite Dhanush. The project, which is tipped to be an action-thriller, is gearing up for release later this year. The film has music by G.V Prakash Kumar.

Dhanush was recently seen in Netflix film Jagame Thandhiram, in which he played a gangster from Madurai. The film, which also stars Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kalaiarasan and James Cosmo, was supposed to arrive in theatres last year. However, the plans got quashed due to the pandemic and the streaming rights were eventually sold to Netflix.

Dhanush will soon commence work on an upcoming trilingual project with filmmaker Sekhar Kammula. The project, which will begin production from August, also stars Sai Pallavi.

The film will be produced on a grand scale by Narayan Das K Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under the banner of Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP (A Unit Of Asian Group) as Production No 4.

Sekhar Kammula is best known for his films such as Leader, Godavari, Happy Days and Fidaa. He currently awaits the release of upcoming Telugu romantic drama Love Story, which stars Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles.

Dhanush also has Aanand L. Rai’s Atrangi Re in the pipeline. He recently completed shooting for Netflix’s international film, The Gray Man.
