Bayern Munich have confirmed the signing of Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez from Spanish giants Real Madrid on a two-year loan deal. Bayern Munich will have an option to buy Rodriguez at the end of the loan spell.
James Rodriguez has long been rumoured to leave the club, despite being key to the club’s successful season. This is reportedly due to falling out of favour manager Zinedine Zidane.
The 25-year old was left out of the squad to face Juventus in the UEFA Champons League final in Cardiff , which Madrid would go on to win 4-1.
“FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have agreed on the change of Colombian national player James Rodríguez to the German championship on Tuesday”, said the Bavarian club on their website.
“The two clubs agreed on a two-year loan transaction until June 30, 2019 with the following purchase option for FC Bayern Munich.
“James Rodriguez will sign his contract in Munich after successfully completing the compulsory medical check”, they added.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said, “We’re delighted we’ve been able to complete this transfer.
“Signing James Rodríguez was our coach Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest wish, following their successful spell working together in Madrid.
“James is a very versatile player. He’s a goalscorer himself, he sets up a lot of goals and on top of that he’s great from set-pieces. There’s no question that this transfer further increases the quality in our team,” he further added.
