Some councillors said the portal helped ensure transparency in the ongoing projects. They added that a similar system should be in place to monitor the progress and development of projects.

“Details, including photographs of the project undertaken by the civic body, were uploaded on the portal. Residents, councillors, media and NGOs could easily log onto the municipal corporation’s dedicated website to track the development work being carried out by the civic body in different wards. It was a good tool to ensure transparency and if it has to be discontinued, we must have an equally good or better system in place,” said Nisha Singh, a councillor.

“We could see the progress of projects in all wards and compare the work done,” said Rama Ranee Rathee, another councillor.

During the house meeting on Friday, MCG commissioner Ashok Sangwan said the civic body had reviewed the system and it was found that many important records were not available on the portal.

He added that the MCG was trying to get its own software to monitor the status of various projects. However, he did not specify when such a system would become functional.
