Gurgaon RWAs meet MCG commissioner over infrastructure woes

MCG commissioner V Umashankar proposed to the RWAs that they can repair roads with their funds and send the bill

Gurgaon residents and members of resident welfare associations (RWAs) met the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) commissioner on Tuesday and apprised him about problems they were facing due to poor infrastructure.

They raised the problems of bad roads, lack of sewerage, poor maintenance and deficiency of various services.

They urged MCG commissioner V Umashankar to take remedial measures as living without functional infrastructure had turned their lives into a nightmare.

The commissioner said the RWA has an option of repairing the roads with their funds and send the bill. He said they can first prepare a cost estimate and send him the proposal. He said if it is feasible, he would try to bill it to the developer. If the developer agrees, then the money would be returned to the residents.

“I have given an option to the RWA members as the area is the liability of the developer; he has to pay us the deficiency amount. The process is likely to start in a fortnight and the RWAs can settle the amount with the developer,” said Umashankar.

“The RWA needs to send the proposal and send the bill to us so that the settlement can be worked upon with the developer. Even the developer can raise an issue as many residents have stopped paying maintenance. We are in process of taking over the areas,” said Umashankar.

The residents of Sector 50 told the MCG chief that they would use NOTA or abstain from voting in the MCG polls if corrective measures were not taken.

“The authorities must take action against builders who failed to fulfil their obligations. It is their department which allowed builders to escape the responsibility and hide behind many illegal arguments based on outdated rules,” said PS Kohli, secretary, Nirvana RWA.

Members of Nirvana, Fresco, The Close North, and South City-2 had met the MCG commissioner to apprise about their problems regarding lack of infrastructure, poor roads, lack of maintenance and similar civic issues.

“The MCG commissioner has given an option for sending a proposal to him where the residents can build their own road after collecting money from the residents and later the money will be refunded by the developer,” said Nilesh Tandon, Fresco Apartment, RWA president.
