Gurugram: Piles of garbage grow across Sushant Lok in absence of RWA

Many house owners now want some restrictions on open dumping of kitchen waste at spots not earmarked for the same by the maintenance agency.

An unauthorised open dumping site in Block-c of Sushant Lok-1 has become a cause for tension among the area’s residents. Those affected by presence of the garbage rotting in the moderately sized pile of waste have started circulating pictures of the site on various social media platforms.

Many house owners now want some restrictions on open dumping of kitchen waste at spots not earmarked for the same by the maintenance agency.

Sushant Lok-1 is a plotted township developed by Ansal API in 1980s and the developer still maintains the civic amenities of colony including waste collection and disposal through its maintenance agency. The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is to take over maintenance of the area for which formalities are being completed.

Punit Sethi, a resident of C Block, said, “The site in front of my house has turned into a dumping yard. I do not throw waste here and I have no idea about others but I want to tell people that throwing kitchen waste this way is a bad manners. Six houses in our row are directly and badly affected. We cannot blame developer’s maintenance agency for not picking up waste from this place. We want plot owners to fix this problem.”

The resident welfare association (RWA) of the colony is in suspended mode for past six months. The fresh election date is yet to be announced.

“In absence of the RWA, I am unable to issue specific instructions in this regard. I will certainly put a signboard there appealing people not to throw garbage. I will try to call meeting of house owners as mostly people living on rents they often do such nuisance,” said Vishnu Khanna, a resident.

Ansal API has appointed a private company pro facility services limited (Profac) for maintenance of the colony – it has appointed vendors to pick garbage from house to house on daily basis. However, maintenance collection has been a big dispute between the residents and developer in C Block affecting civic amenities’ services.

Ravi Saini, general manager Profac, said, “My vendors will dispose garbage from the site in question but it will emerge in next couple of days again. Our system is perfect and we want to provide service but maintenance collection from residents has been a big challenge for us.
