Huda to demolish 5 fuel stations obstructing project

The authority has proposed other sites for the fuel stations to shift to, but no movement in that direction was seen on the ground till Friday. On Thursday, Huda again issued an ultimatum to the owners to shift or their establishments would be demolished.

The underpasses are meant to decongest the expressway by diverting the traffic to Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk and Signature Tower.

“The present scenario is forcing us to take action as even after we issued notices to the five fuel stations to shift before September 30, no signs of them acting on it is visible on ground,” said Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav.

“The project is important for the city. We need to complete it on time as it will help regulate the traffic and expressway,” said Yadav.

The Huda administrator further said that for clearing the area the authority held a meeting with representatives of the National highway authority of India (NHAI), the Hindustan petroleum corporation limited (HPCL), the Gas authority of India limited (GAIL) and Haryana city gas distribution limited (HCG). According to him, all these bodies agreed to provide the help required in clearing the land.

The administrator also pointed out that the procedure required for acquiring the land has already been completed. “We have to start by October 1 so that the project is completed on time,” said Yadav.

Earlier this month, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari had inaugurated the project that is supposed to be completed within 15 months. Work on the project is expected to start from October.

As per their proposal, the three underpasses are proposed to cost around Rs 1,000 crore. The underpass at Rajiv Chowk might cost Rs 234.32 crore, whereas the IFFCO Chowk flyover and underpass will cost Rs 285.12 crore and the Signature Tower underpass will cost Rs 215.01 crore.
