Sadar Bazar is one of the oldest markets in the city and is popularly known as the counterpart of Delhi's Chandni Chowk for its wholesale dealers and several renowned eateries.

According to a Punjab and Haryana High Court direction, such markets in the state have to be made vehicle-free zones with only electric rickshaws to ferry shoppers and visitors.

While the MCG had earlier mooted a plan to develop a parking space at Kaman Sarai, it is yet to take a final decision.

MCG chief town planner SC Khush said the parking site, spread over one acre, is yet to be acquired by the civic body and measures are on to get the land transferred.

Sadar Bazar attracts high footfalls daily and the area is choc-a-bloc during festive seasons.
