Only two major characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe haven’t taken a life, according to an exhaustive spreadsheet shared on the Marvel subreddit. A thread by fans on the site has been tracking every single death in the MCU, and the results are now in - every major character has killed, or has been complicit in killing, with the exception of Spider-Man and the Wasp.

Black Widow, Hawkeye and Captain America haven’t taken a life firsthand, but have aided in the death of at least one character during their Marvel run. The list notes that while Spidey helped in killing Ebony Maw, most of the work had already been done by Iron Man. Meanwhile, while the Wasp might have broken many bones, her actions haven’t resulted in outright death.

An interesting insight is that Pepper Potts has taken more lives - Obadiah Stane and Aldrich Killian - than the Hulk. Thanos, of course, has the highest kill count, thanks to his finger snap in Avengers: Infinity War, which claimed the lives of half the universe’s population.

Most of these deaths are expected to be reversed in Avengers 4, when the surviving Avengers are expected to go on a time-travelling, interdimensional mission to rescue their fallen friends. Set photos, quotes by the cast and crew, and a leaked plot synopsis have all pointed to the possibility of the Infinity War deaths being undone - which could take Thanos’ score way down.

Avengers 4 is scheduled for a May 2019 release, and will likely conclude this iteration of the Marvel Universe. Disney chief Bob Iger has said that the franchise will continue thanks to the thousands of other characters waiting to be explored, and the possibility of Fox’s X-Men being introduced into the mix.
