Potterheads save Dobby’s ‘grave’ from power cables

A 200km power cable linking the UK and Ireland was rerouted after fans raised concerns that its original route would pass near Dobby’s grave in Wales.

Fans of the Harry Potter franchise recently saved the grave of the much-loved house-elf, Dobby, by helping reroute a £430 million power cable (approximately ₹5,538.18 crore) in the UK.

The interconnector would have passed near Dobby’s unofficial grave at Freshwater West beach in Wales, the filming location for his burial scene.

The Greenlink interconnector, a 200km power cable linking the UK’s National Grid with County Wexford in Ireland, was originally planned to come ashore at Freshwater West beach in Wales, the location used as Dobby’s burial site in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010).

When the proposed route was shown during a BBC interview, the project team reportedly received hundreds of calls from concerned fans. Planners subsequently worked on an alternative route that avoided the fictional memorial. Project manager Simon Ludlam later joked on the Energy Revolution podcast: “A lot of people were very happy about that... and Dobby’s happy,” as reported by The Guardian.
