After failed suicide attempt, Jharkhand police officer jumps to death in Bihar hospital
A Jharkhand assistant sub-inspector of police, admitted to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, committed suicide by jumping to death from the four-storey hospital building. He had survived an earlier suicide attempt on May 4.
A Jharkhand cop, having failed the first time, succeeded in embracing death on Tuesday, when he committed suicide by jumping to death at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital (JLNMCH).
The deceased has been identified as Giro Kant Murmur, an assistant sub-inspector of police.
Police said Murmur jumped from the washroom window on the fourth floor of the hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. He was admitted to the surgery ward of the JLNMCH, Bhagalpur, after suffering injuries around his neck and stomach in an earlier suicide bid on May 4.

Murmur was initially admitted to a health facility in Godda and then referred to a higher medical centre and brought on May 6 to the JLNMCH in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, 230 kms east of Patna.
At 81 kms, the JLNMCH, Bhagalpur, is the nearest medical college hospital to Godda. Jharkhand capital Ranchi is 335 kms, while Jamshedupur, where the cop was posted, is 320 kms from Godda. The JLNMCH also caters to the medical needs of people in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj, Godda and Dumka districts.
The reason behind the cop’s suicide was not immediately known. The local police had contacted its counterpart at Godda police station in Jharkhand.
Bhagalpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manoj Kumar said the deceased was a resident of Sunder Pahadi village in Jharkhand’s Godda district.
The cop’s wife, Agne Soren and daughter Ritu, who had accompanied him to Bhagalpur, had gone shopping, when Murmur jumped to death. The deceased had reportedly insisted that the daughter accompany her mother for shopping, the SSP added.
