Police arrested Mohammad Firoz (26) on Monday for shooting dead Sanjay Mandal (40), the owner of the eatery in Bhatpara, an industrial suburb in North 24 Paraganas district.

“We have arrested Firoz. He shot Sanjoy Mandal at the restaurant on Sunday evening. There were three more persons with him. We hope to catch them too,” said deputy commissioner of Barrackpore police, K Kannan.

The officer said Firoz fired two shots at Mandal following an altercation.

Firoz and three youths arrived at Mandal Restaurant, a roadside eatery, around 9 pm on Sunday. They asked him to pack biriyani for them. When Mandal asked them to pay, they refused, saying he was over-charging.

At this point, Mandal told them to clear the dues of Rs 190 for the biriyani that they had taken a few days ago. It led to an altercation and Firoz whipped out a pistol and shot Mandal.
