Fire at central Delhi’s Vikas Bhawan

A minor fire broke out on the fifth floor of Vikas Bhawan near ITO in central Delhi on Monday afternoon, police said on Monday. Officers from the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), however, maintained that no one was injured in the incident.

The DFS control room received a call around 12 pm reporting that a split AC in the office of Delhi Development Authority on the fifth floor has caught fire.

Chief fire officer Atul Garg said they had rushed five fire tenders to contain the blaze. However, he said, the office staff and security had themselves controlled the fire before fire fighters arrived.

“The room in which the AC was installed was damaged and some documents and furniture were gutted in the fire. However, the staff managed to leave in time and no one was injured,” Garg said.
