Mumbai rain highlights: Over 750 passengers have been rescued after two monorail trains got stuck due to power snags amid the heavy rain. As per BMC and MMRDA officials, rescue operations are now complete. Based on the official statement from the MMRDA, officials have cited “overcrowding” as the primary reason behind the technical snags.

Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Raigad and other regions remain on high alert. As per Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the next 48 hours will be extremely crucial for the districts under IMD's red alert.

The heavy rain in Mumbai has also caused major flight disruptions. As of Tuesday evening, flights at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai experienced an average delay of 40 minutes. Speaking to HT, airport officials have stated a total of 17 flights were asked to go around before landing and 11 were asked to divert to nearby airports.

Impact of heavy rain in Mumbai and other districts

• Two incidents of stuck monorails were reported amid the heavy rain in Mumbai. In the first incident, the monorail stopped abruptly between Acharya Atre & Wadala Mono Rail station, carrying 200 passengers. As per BMC, all passengers on this train were rescued and the monorail was towed back to Wadala station.
• The second monorail was reported at Mysore Colony, where over 500 passengers were left stranded inside. Deputy chief fire officer Anil Parab told HT all 582 passengers were rescued and operation is complete.
• As per the IMD, several parts of Mumbai recorded more than 200 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Vikhroli East at 268 mm, Marol 262 mm, and Powai’s Passpoli 257 mm. Versova recorded 250 mm, while the Forsbery reservoir in F-South reported 220 mm of rainfall.
• BMC added that the western suburbs were hit even harder in the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, with Chincholi fire station reprting 361 mm, Kandivali 337 mm, Dindoshi 305 mm, and Magathane 304 mm of rainfall. In South Mumbai, gauges at Dadar and Wadala crossed 280 mm, while the eastern suburbs of Chembur and Vikhroli also reported upwards of 290 mm.
• A red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune, Satara and Ratnagiri stays in effect with heavy to extremely heavy rain forecast for the regions.
