PM Modi announces compensation after Malviya Nagar fire kills 21 in Delhi
The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased victim.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the fire incident in Delhi's Malviya Nagar area. PM Modi said on the official X account authorities are providing all possible assistance to the people affected by the fire.

The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased victim. He further announced financial assistance of ₹50,000 for every injured person. Track Delhi fire news live updates
The statement from the Prime Minister came after a major fire broke out at a Lemon Green Restaurant in Delhi's Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday. At least 21 people were killed in the blaze, as per the Delhi police officials. Several other people suffered injuries in the incident. According to officials, the fire erupted during the morning hours.
Government leaders respond to Malviya Nagar fire in Delhi
Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also expressed her grief over the deaths and said the government is taking note of the situation. In her X post she stated that the emergency teams were stationed from the Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, DDMA (Delhi Disaster Management Authority), and CATS Ambulance Services. Many people were rescued because of the swift action taken by the authorities, she added.
Amit Shah, Union Home Minister also expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives. On his X account Shah posted, "My heart is deeply grieved by the fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi. The local administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations. My condolences are with those who have lost their loved ones in this heart-wrenching tragedy. May God grant strength to the bereaved families to bear this sorrow."
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief over the incident and offered his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Singh gave a statement on X, "The fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, is heart-wrenching. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy. I pray to God that He grants them the strength to bear this immense sorrow. At the same time, I wish for a speedy recovery for the injured".
Delhi Fire Services received a call in the morning and immediately deployed several firefighting teams, along with two water tenders, two water bowsers, and other emergency rescue gear. At around 8.50 am many fire tenders were at the location to bring the fire under control.
Ashish Sood, Delhi Minister also gave a statement to ANI, "The building owner who is responsible for negligence will be arrested. We will not spare any illegal building and those found guilty." The injured were taken to a nearby hospital in CATS ambulances for treatment.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established.
