Kalkaji election result: AAP's Atishi receives warm welcome from supporters at her residence

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal said, "The people of Delhi have voted optimistically. The people saw how the BJP is working in various states where it has the government and compared it to Delhi and voted for PM Modi."

"The BJP is going to form the government in Delhi... The people of Delhi are going to punish Arvind Kejriwal for his deeds," he added.

BJP Kalkaji candidate Ramesh Bidhuri exuded confidence over his victory and said that the people of the constituency do not trust Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi.

"The mandate is stored in the machines (EVMs) but I feel that Atishi ji's farewell is certain," he told PTI.

While AAP's Atishi trails in Kalkaji, party supremo Arvind Kejriwal has taken the lead on his New Delhi assembly constituency.

Kejriwal has left behind BJP's Parvesh Sahib Singh by 254 votes, as per EC data.

As Ramesh Bidhuri leads in Kalkaji as per EC data, he spoke to reporters in the national capital and said that if the people of the constituency want development, then "they will give a send-off to Atishi".

He said that Kejriwal won the elections last two times because he distributed freebies and made false promises.

"But in the last 10 years, he was exposed. If the people of Kalkaji want development, they will give a send-off to Atishi. This lead (from Kalkaji) is the blessing of people of Kalkaji. Kejriwal has done no work in Delhi in the last 10 years. I believe áapda is going and BJP will come to power...We are here to serve the public, not for any position like CM," Bidhuri told reporters.

BJP MP Atul Garg has said that his party will bag more than 50 per cent votes in the Delhi election results, adding that the saffron camp will form the government in the capital.

According to the Election Commission of India, BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri is leading in the Kalkaji assembly constituency by a margin of over 1,000 votes.

Delhi chief minister and AAP candidate Atishi is trailing behind and so is Congress' Alka Lamba.

AAP leader Priyanka Kakkar expressed confidence in Arvind Kejriwal becoming the chief minister of Delhi for the fourth time.

"We are sure that the people have voted for the politics of development. Arvind Kejriwal will become the Chief Minister for the 4th time," Kakkar told ANI.

She also alleged that the BJP and Congress had contested the election in alliance.

East Delhi DCP Abhishek Dhania said that sufficient security arrangements, with CAPF paramilitary forces and three layers of Delhi Police security, have been made in the capital on the vote counting day. He assured that the process will continue to take place peacefully.

As per Election Commission of India's data, the BJP is leading in 32 seats and Arvind Kejriwal's AAP is ahead on 14 seats.

BJP MP Harsh Malhotra said that the early trends for the Delhi election has exposed Arvind Kejriwal's bad governance and corruption.

"This is the reason the public has made up their mind to change the government. BJP's credibility, development works in other states and work done by the central government of the nation will ensure BJP will form majority govt in Delhi," he told ANI.

As counting of votes is underway in Delhi, BJP Kalkaji candidate Ramesh Bidhuri offered prayers at his residence.

He is contesting against Delhi CM and AAP candidate Atishi, and Congress' Alka Lamba, from the Kalkaji seat.

BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva said, Early trends are as per our expectation but we will wait for the results. Our party workers have worked hard."

He said that the saffron party's win will belong to the top leadership. He said that the BJP has contested the Delhi election on the basis of the capital's issues.

But, he said, "Arvind Kejriwal tried to deviate from the issues... The central leadership will decide the CM face.

Early trends gave the lead to the BJP and its candidate Ramesh Bidhuri on the Kalkaji assembly constituency. However, the Election Commission of India has so far not put out any official trends or figures for Kalkaji.

Though early trends gave the lead to the BJP, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said that his party will form the government in Delhi, proving the exit poll wrong.

"Arvind Kejriwal will become the CM for the fourth time... In most exit polls, AAP has less vote share, because the poor people don't say anything about their vote. They go to polling stations and vote as per their will. The exit polls will be proven wrong as AAP is going to form the govt this time as well," he said while speaking to reporters.

Congress candidate from Kalkaji assembly seat Alka Lamba exuded confidence over his victory from the constituency.

"I don't think the people of Kalkaji have liked BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri. There was anger amongst the people due to his language. With money and power, he also tried to influence counts at many of my polling booths," Lamba told ANI.

She also accused Atishi for not doing any work for the people, saying that she sought votes in Arvind Kejriwal's name.

Atishi is currently trailing in the Kalkaji constituency against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri, while Congress candidate Alka Lamba is also behind in the race.
