Three people were arrested in Tripura’s Khowai district for alleged extortion and attacking a woman police official who was on duty in Teliamura.

Three persons were arrested on the charge of extortion and attacking a woman police official while on duty in Teliamura in Tripura’s Khowai district, police said on Friday.

Tripura police arrested three people for alleged extortion after a woman cop was injured while detaining the suspects in Teliamura, Khowai district.

Police identified them as Druba Saha (21), Sudip Chakraborty (25) and Uttam Deb (28), all residents of Khowai district. They were produced before a court on Friday.

Police said that the complainant, Sanjit Chakma, alleged that some persons intercepted their vehicle at Teliamura and looted ₹4,000 in cash from their possession on Thursday night.

Accordingly, two women cops, Sampa Das Gupta and Sumitra Debbarma, accompanied by a few Tripura State Rifles personnel, rushed to the spot.

As the complainant identified the accused, the cops detained them. All of a sudden, the accused persons turned violent and misbehaved with the TSR personnel. At that time, Sampa Das Gupta came in front of them, a motorbike dashed into her, and the pillion rider pushed her. As a result, she fell down and sustained injuries.

Later, police arrested them for extortion and attacking an on-duty cop.

“A case was lodged under relevant sections of BNS. We arrested three persons,” an officer said.
