Unhappy over no arrest, Swami Agnivesh to move Supreme Court for probe into attack on him
Social activist Swami Agnivesh on Sunday said he might approach the Supreme Court for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the attack on him two weeks back in Jharkhand, in which, he claimed, there had been no probe or arrest yet.

“It has been 15 days and no arrest has been made. There has been no investigation. It indicates that the matter is being brushed under the carpet. I have no option but to go to the Supreme Court and request for an SIT probe,” Agnivesh told ANI.
The spiritual leader, who was in Jharkhand’s Pakur to attend an event on July 18, was in his hotel when a group of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers thrashed him.
Agnivesh lodged a complaint at Ranchi police station, but there have been no arrests yet.
“I survived just with the grace of God. The mob would have killed me. I thought I was finished,” the 79-year-old said while addressing a seminar in Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram, and exhorted people to unite to fight communalism “in the great spirit of saving democracy, Indian constitution and saving the greatest Hindu civilisation”.
Addressing the seminar, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor came down heavily on the BJP led government at the Centre and claimed communal violence and killings in the name of cow vigilantism have increased in the last four years.
Tharoor alleged that as per Home ministry statistics 2,920 incidents of communal violence had occurred in the country in the last four years, leaving 389 people dead and scores injured.
