After floods, Gujarat braces for diseases

While water receded in Gujarat, threat of epidemic loomed large in with chicken pox cases being reported.

As rains receded on Tuesday all over Gujarat, threat of epidemic loomed large in the state, as six chicken pox cases were reported in Vadodara city.

The six, all residents of Yaqubpura of the city, have been admitted at the Jamnabai hospital.

Two persons in a tractor were rescued by CRPF personnel while they were being washed away in a swollen stream near Tarapur in Anand district.

Rains declined all over the state, with only Umarpada taluka in Surat crossing the 50 mm-mark and 140 talukas receiving less than 50 mm rains.

However, the Vanakbori dam had water flowing five feet above the red mark. It had an outflow of 2.11 lakh cusecs while the Kadana dam had an outflow of 1.84 lakh cusecs. Panam dam had an outflow of 19,000 cusecs against an inflow of 16,300 cusecs.

As water level is Shedi, Vatrak and Sabarmati rivers was declining, people who had been evacuated were seen returning to their homes.
