Director Sujoy Ghosh, in the midst of shooting for his film Aladdin with Amitabh Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh, has slapped a notice on Zee TV for ‘pilfering’ a title already registered with him.

Says Sameer Rajendran , executive producer of the film Aladdin, “The title belongs to Sujoy. Besides the film,we’re also contemplating a TV series of the same name.”

Legal wrangle
Rajendran claims that a notice had been sent to Zee awhile ago, but there’s been no response from the channel.

“They’ve added a suffix but the font size of Aladdin is so huge that it dominates the title. Even if they couldn’t change the title, they could surely have enlarged the suffix’s font size to avoid confusion,” he points out.

Jaivardhan Tiwari from Zee’s marketing team, refused to go on record. He said that the channel’s legal cell is looking into the matter.

Incidentally, there has been an animated Walt Disney film on Aladdin in 1992. And of course, there’s the famous legend of Aladdin too.
