BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha lost no time on Sunday to label the decisive show of Mahagathbandhan as a “victory of democracy” that settled the “Bihari versus Bahari” debate. But the tenor of his tweets congratulating chief minister Nitish Kumar and his RJD ally Lalu Prasad was more of a critique of the way BJP’s top leadership approached the election.

“It appears that the issue of Bihari vs Bahari (and Bihari Babu’s absence) has been settled once and for all. It is the victory of democracy and the people of Bihar. I salute them,” he said in successive tweets.

Kumar and Prasad had during their campaign indicated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah were ‘Baharis’ (outsiders) planning to conquer Bihar. And Bihari Babu is the moniker Sinha had earned besides Shotgun during his reign in Bollwood.

Sinha, once one of BJP’s star campaigners, was sidelined this time. During the course of the five-phase polls, he had often tweeted against the way the party was campaigning in Bihar.

Sinha, who represents the Patna Sahib constituency, was profuse in his praise of the grand alliance leaders. “Wishing great luck to our victorious friends and appealing for introspection to our people. The writing was always on the wall,” read one of his tweets.

He also advised the BJP leadership to improve its strategy, work as a team and coordinate with local leaders in the future.
