The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) began its probe into the Noida double murders on Sunday by questioning Aarushi Talwar’s mother.

To ensure that investigation does not suffer and no evidence is lost, the agency registered a case after the central government issued a notification handing over the investigation to it.

Even as a CBI team was questioning Nupur Talwar at her Noida home, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati announced in Lucknow the transfer of top cops who were so far associated with the investigation. Mayawati said Gurdarshan Singh, IG (Meerut), DIG P.C. Meena and SSP Noida A Satish Ganesh were shifted to ensure “impartial and honest probe in the case”.

She said the Noida Police had collected vital information in the case but the government decided to recommend a CBI probe because the victim’s family had expressed lack of confidence in police investigation. She said full help would be provided to the CBI to unearth the conspiracy in the case.

The CBI registered a murder case against unknown persons. Aarushi, 14, and domestic help Hemraj were murdered at their Sector 25 home on the night of May 15-16. A week later, Noida Police said Aarushi’s father, Dr Rajesh Talwar, was the killer and arrested him.

A 25-member CBI team led by a joint director reached the Talwars' residence around 11 a.m. The Head of Department, Forensic Medicine, AIIMS and Director, CFSL, New Delhi accompanied the team.

Around 70 SSB commandos cordoned off the area before the CBI officials and experts arrived in a bus and cars.
Nupur and her brother Dinesh, who had gone to meet Dr Rajesh Talwar at Dasna jail, returned home around 11.30 am after which they were questioned by the team. They were taken to the terrace and asked to explain in detail as to what happened on the night of the murders as investigators tried to recreate the scene and draw up the sequence of events.
