The CIA team of the Gurgaon police was conducting raids when they stumbled upon the CCTV footage where they identified gang member Shahid following a complaint by Uma Shanker Singh, who took a lift in a white Santro from Atlas Chowk and was assaulted.

An employee with Airtel in Udyog Vihar, Singh first approached the Delhi Police who referred the victim to their Gurgaon counterparts.

Meanwhile, another case came to light on December 19 in which a Gurgaon-based BPO employee was targeted.

The latest victim told the police that his Blackberry mobile phone had slipped under the car seat when the accused were thrashing him. The gang members were not aware of the phone and did not switch it off, as they usually did after robbing cellphones. The police then put the phone under surveillance and kept tracking the accused.

Gurgaon police were close on the heels of the gang after MNC executive Kamlesh Nathani was found dumped with broken arms and ribs on December 23.

The police asked all automobile repair shops and Hyundai service centres in the city to remain alert. Gang mastermind Zuber Khan was nabbed when he went to repair his car and the shopowner informed the police.
