Govt teacher held for rape bid on student in J&K

A government schoolteacher in Ramnagar near here allegedly attempted to rape a Class 11 student when they both were alone during an annual exam on Wednesday.

A government schoolteacher in Ramnagar near here allegedly attempted to rape a Class 11 student when they both were alone during an annual exam on Wednesday.

The teacher was an invigilator and allegedly forced himself on to the victim when other students had left the exam hall. Police registered a case against the teacher, Surinder Kumar Sharma of Thaplal in Ramnagar, on Thursday and arrested him a day later. Sharma has been remanded in three-day police custody, Udhampur senior superintendent of police Benam Posh said.

The victim alleged that when other students had left the exam hall, Sharma came to her and offered help. A few minutes later, the teacher allegedly tried to rape her. However, the student raised the alarm and ran out of the exam hall.
