In a poster put up in Sopore, Kashmir, the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) has publicly threatened to kill 25 people who, according to the poster, are associated with various security agencies.
The poster asks militants to stay away from these people as ‘they are associated with the Army or the police’ and can prove dangerous to militants.
“We had warned these people several times and will kill them the moment they are spotted,” the poster threatens.
Confirming the appearance of posters in Sopore, superintendent of police (SP) Abdul Qayoom told Hindustan Times that the police are first trying to establish the identity of those people named in the poster.
“We have seen the posters at many places in Sopore and are investigating the matter. Our first job is to identify the people listed in the poster,” Qayoom said.
Meanwhile, a police source said that the posters might be handiwork of some local Hizbul cadre in the area as most people listed are locals.
“I believe one person on the list is in jail right now,” the official said.
