During a three-day visit to Oman, Minster of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed conveyed India's appreciation for permitting the repatriation of Indians whose visas or labour cards had lapsed.

Ahamed also thanked Oman for allowing the workers to leave without paying huge accumulated fines and without any legal punishment or elaborate procedures required for issuing passes for their departure.

"This concession has been extended only to Indians and that too without any strict deadline," Ahamed said in a statement issued here.

He said this gesture had provided great relief to countless destitute and needy Indians who were desperate to return to their families and homes.
