India to get in touch with B'desh over IC-814 hijack

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said India would get in touch with the Bangladesh government to ascertain the identity of the person, who has reportedly claimed to be involved in IC-814 hijack in 1999.

India on Tuesday said it would get in touch with the Bangladesh government to ascertain the identity of the person, who has reportedly claimed to be involved in IC-814 hijack in 1999.

Reacting to reports of Bangladesh arresting a Jaish-e-Mohammed militant, one of the key conspirators of the hijack, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said, "Well, we certainly will get in touch with the government of Bangladesh and try to find out what the position is.

"If the identity of the person whom you are mentioning is the same as we have been looking out after the hijack...We
certainly would be taking it up with the government of Bangladesh."

According to some reports, Bangladesh government has arrested one Belal Hosain alias Nanu Mondal, who is suspected to have played a key role in the December 24, 1999, hijacking of the Air India flight IC-814 to Kandahar in Afghanistan.
