While IPL action heats up on-field with the tournament having reached an exciting stage, the satta market is also abuzz with record money being bet on each teams’ performance. A whopping Rs 20,000 crores is at stake in the illegal satta market, with the current favourites being the Mumbai Indians, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“The amount being put on stake has gone up by 12-14 times this year,” says a source at the satta market, not wishing to be named. In Gujarat alone, over Rs 200 crores were placed as bet for the match between Delhi and Rajsthan — an example of the burgeoning satta stakes.

“KKR had started as the favourites with Rs 4.50 as the odds against it and is still among favourites, despite the losses,” the source says. He adds that Mumbai and Bangalore, too, has been a favourite with the odds hovering around Rs 4.50 to Rs 5. “But Hyderabad [Deccan Chargers] is raking poorly this time,” he adds.

The defending champions are fetching around Rs 7 for odds. For the highest run getter of the tournament in the satta market, Sachin Tendulkar and Jaques Kallis have the bookies divided.

Go Delhi

Though Delhi is still not among the top three satta market favourites, the two- time semi-finalist is still being fancied. “Delhi has come up from around Rs 6.50 to Rs 5- 5.50 now,” says the source. And that’s good news for youngsters in the Capital. “I have placed all my money for Delhi making it to the semis... so have a couple of my friends,” says DU student Harsh Kalyan.

Will Bollywood change the game?

While astrologers and punters make their predictions, team owners are doing their bit to ensure that ‘all izz well’. While Bollywood presence is one of the strong points of IPL, fans may soon miss Preity Zinta on the field. Kings XI Punjab, the last placed team this year, has won only two matches — both when team co-owner Zinta wasn’t present in the stadium. “Maybe I should stay out of the stadium d next game,” the actress said on Twitter. While Bangalore team owner Vijay Mallya couldn’t ensure a win in the match against Delhi despite the presence of his ‘lucky charms’ Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan’s team too lost out to Punjab in the absence of his lucky divas — Sushmita Sen and Raveena Tandon . “We let this one slip by...all the more difficult to qualify,” tweeted SRK.

For IPL teams, it’s all a numbers game now, say astrologers

While the punters are betting on which team will win, astrologers aren’t lagging behind in making their predictions.

HT City spoke to numerologist Sanjay B Jumaani and astrologer Vikram Mehta to pick the favourites for this season. Jumaani said, “Mukesh Ambani’s ruling number is 1 and Mumbai captain, Sachin

Tendulkar, is in his 37th year, which adds up to 1, which is good as 1 represents the Sun.”

For the Delhi team, Mehta suggests, “They are ruled by Saturn. So their hard work is proportionate to their winning streak.”

For the Kolkata IPL team, Jumaani feels, “The burning skull — their logo — represents death, bringing them bad luck.”

About M S Dhoni’s Chennai team, Mehta says, “The team’s number is 9, which is good for them.” Jumaani adds, “The finals on the 25th could be lucky for Dhoni as his ruling number is 7.”
