An encounter between security forces and a group of suspected militants erupted near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara sector on Saturday evening, in which three army commandos sustained bullet injuries.
Army sources said that an army patrol intercepted a group of militants near Bateeja outpost on the LoC in the Tangdhar area, triggering a gun battle.
“Troops confronted a group of militants moving close to the LoC. The militants were asked to surrender but they opened fire. The troops retaliated, leading to the encounter,” said an army officer.
The army’s 20 Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group (SOG) of Kupwara were engaged in the encounter.
On Wednesday, two militants from Pakistan ambushed a BSF convoy and killed two troopers in Jammu's Udhampur. A day after, miltants attacked a police post in Basantgarh and fled after a gun battle.
