Jewellery worth Rs 42 lakh stolen in Mumbai

Thieves used duplicate keys to enter the jewellery shop on late Monday night and escaped with 4.5 kg gold ornaments and Rs 80,000 cash.

Gold ornaments worth Rs 42 lakh were stolen from a jewellery shop in Parel area of central Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.

Thieves used duplicate keys to enter Suresh Choudhary's jewellery shop located on Jehangir Mekharji Street in Parel on Monday night and escaped with 4.5 kg gold ornaments worth Rs 42 lakh besides Rs 80,000 cash, police added.

The theft was noticed when Choudhary opened his shop this morning and found the showcases empty while the rear door of the shop, which is perennially locked, was wide open, police added.
