Mid-day meal to be more tasty, nutritious from April

More delectable and nutritious food will be on the mid-day meal platter from next month, with the Haryana government constituting self-help groups to prepare recipes for schoolchildren.

More delectable and nutritious food will be on the mid-day meal platter from next month, with the Haryana government constituting self-help groups to prepare recipes for schoolchildren.

Primary and upper primary students in the state would be served food as per the recipes prepared by the self help groups of women constituted by Rural Development and Panchayats Department and Women and Child Development Department, an official release said in Chandigarh today.

A committee headed by additional deputy commissioner would hold meetings at block level to identify these groups after which they would be imparted training at block level about nutrition in food, hygiene maintenance and records and accounts.

With the Haryana government revising food norms under national programme for mid-day meal in schools, the groups would procure items to be cooked and ensure that food is served in time.

The teacher concerned would give each month's funds to them in advance and ensure that students get mid-day meal regularly. The teacher would also check the quality of food being served to students.

Quantity has also been increased by 5 grams to 10 grams. The every day quantity of foodgrains for primary student will be 100 gms which would be 150 gms for the upper primary. The quantity of pulses for primary student will be 20 gms and for upper primary 30 gms. The quantity of vegetables, including leafy ones, would be 50 and 75 gms for primary and upper primary students, respectively.
