Muslim quota adjourns Assembly in AP
The Oppn demanded an immediate discussion on reservation for Muslims in educational institutions, govt jobs.
The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for a brief while as the opposition parties stalled the proceedings, demanding an immediate discussion on reservation for Muslisms in educational institutions and government jobs.
Pandemonium prevailed in the Assembly as members of TDP, CPM, AIMIM and TRS trooped to the well of the House in protest against Speaker KR Suresh Reddy, disallowing the adjournment motion given notice of by them.
Even as Information Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir said that the government was ready to discuss on the welfare of minorities, including reservation for Muslims, the opposition members demanded that the regular proceedings of the House be suspended and an immediate discussion be taken up on the issue.
As the speaker's appeal to the members that he would fix the time and date for the discussion fell on deaf ears, Reddy adjourned the House for 10 minutes.
The Speaker also disallowed an adjournment motion given notice of by BJP floor leader G Kishen Reddy on vacancies in various government departments.
