NCW summons Delhi Police Commissioner

In the backdrop of the rape of a college girl in the Capital, the NCW on Thursday summoned Delhi Police Commissioner KK Paul to discuss the issue of security of women after which a decision was taken to set up round-the-clock desks at all police stations to specifically deal with cases of crimes against the fair sex.
At the meeting, the Commission Chairperson Girija Vyas pulled up the police for not taking appropriate action after it was informed about the girl's abduction on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The girl was then gangraped by four persons in a moving car before being dumped back after two hours.
"There is an increasing feeling that Delhi is not a safe place for women, and it seems to be right in view of the increase in the rate of attacks on women," Vyas told reporters after the meeting in New Delhi on Friday evening. The Police Commissioner, however, did not come for the media briefing.
She said the Commission put forth some suggestions to the Police Commissioner to tackle the situation that included setting up separate desks to deal with cases of crime against women at all police stations, which was accepted.
