The petition challenging Dimple's unopposed election was filed by one Prabhat Kumar Pandey.

Dimple was elected unopposed to the Lok Sabha seat which had fallen vacant after resignation of her husband after he assumed the state's chief ministership.

Dimple had a stunning victory in the by-election for Kannauj held in June this year which came close on the heels of the Samajwadi Party's return to power in the state.
