The Kenyan captain in the 1996 World Cup, Maurice Odumbe, was refused an autograph by Brian Lara while the West Indian was playing for Warwickshire. When Lara went to the Kenyan dressing room after the Africans stunned West Indies in Pune in 1996, Odumbe said, "Now you should be asking for my autograph."The 1987 World Cup saw the appointment of neutral umpires for the first time in Cup history.
