It's not only about good looks. "It is the entire persona that matters," says the winner of the Best Model of the World contest. Sidharth Shukla won the event held in Istanbul on December 9, beating 42 contestants. A Gladrags first runner up in 2004, he the fact that no Asian, has won this title and he beat the first runner-up, who was Turkish, in his own country.
Quite a feat for the 25year old. Each participating country sends a male and female model to the pageant. This year, besides, Sidharth, the other Indian at the event was Gladrags winner Nikki D'Souza. Nikki, though, did not make it.
"Winning the title" says Sidharth, "has a lot to do with luck and one's personality. "You can have a great body and good looks, but if you don't have luck and the dedication that is required then you get nowhere in the industry." And of course there is that something extra that is required to be a winner.
Sidharth savours the experience of being in Turkey where he got to meet people of different nationalities, all in one place. "This pageant is a huge thing in Europe and is televised on TV 8. But that is not so here. "I made a lot of friends and am in touch with them."
But one thing he missed was his Indian vegetarian food which he had as soon as he was airbound for Mumbai.
An interior designer by profession, Sidharth got into modelling without even have a portfolio and he got assignments with the top models of the time. But what catapulted him into the limelight was the Pantaloons Campaign.Others in his portfolio are S Kumar's, Digjam, ICICI Bank, VIP luggage, Bajaj Avenger and more. Winning the contest has now opened doors in the inter national arena for Sidharth. "I should be getting calls in a month or two," reveals Sidharth.
Movies he is open to, but is waiting for the right offer.
