Rat found in mid-day meal, 24 children taken ill

Twenty-four children studying in a seminary were taken ill after eating mid-day meals in which a dead rat was found at Madangarh in Ajmer district, police said on Friday.

Twenty-four children studying in a seminary were taken ill after eating mid-day meals in which a dead rat was found at Madangarh in Ajmer district, police said on Friday.The children complained of vomiting and nausea after consuming rice and other stuff on Thursday and were referred to a local hospital, Bhanwaroon Khan, the investigating police officer told PTI over telephone.

Police found a dead rat in the mid-day meals which were prepared by NGO Nandi Foundation.As soon as the news spread, parents of the children and a group of local residents held a protest demanding action against the NGO for serving stale and adulterated food. However, police soon convinced them to lift the road block outside the Madina Masjid campus.

Khan said while 18 children were discharged this morning, six were sent home yesterday itself. A case has been registered against the NGO. A team of Deputy-CMHO from Ajmer has also collected food samples, he said.
