The Shia Federation, Jammu, has stepped up its campaign for restoration of the Peer Mitha police station premises to the community for its inclusion back into the Karbla Complex.
A deputation of the Shia Federation, Jammu province, which called on state governor NN Vohra here on Friday, complained that the premises where the Peer Mitha police station, adjoining Karbla Complex, has been constructed, originally belongs to the community and formed a part of the complex.
It was encroached upon illegally. First a police post was set up by raising a tent there and later a pucca building was constructed on the spot for the police post, which since has been upgraded to the police station and a new building has been constructed there, housing the police station.
President of the federation Ashiq Hussain Khan urged the governor to use his good offices with the government for shifting the police station from there and handing over the place back to the Shia community.
Hussain stated that the state governments, right from the times of Dogra rulers to the popular governments, has been allotting lands to the religious communities for their shrines, but in this case the land which belonged to the community from the very beginning and formed a part of Karbla Complex, was encroached upon by the government for setting up a police station.
Hussain also demanded setting up of the Shia Community Advisory Board on the pattern of advisory boards set up for Gujjars, Bakerwals and Padhis and the SC and ST Board.
General secretary of the federation Iftikhar Husaain Jafri rued that due compensation had not been paid to the farmers, most of whom belong to the Shia community, for construction of Baghaliar Hydel Project, nor the members of the family whose lands had been acquired absorbed at jobs in the project, as was assured.
He demanded jobs for the young members of the families whose lands were acquired for the project.
