Hollywood's self-appointed style guru Mr Blackwell on Tuesday savaged pop Princess Britney Spears in his annual list of worst-dressed celebrities, branding her a "fashions flop".
Spears, 23, topped the 2005 edition of caustic-tongued wag's annual list of the "Worst Dressed Women," but former child star Mary-Kate Olsen, Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria and singer Maria Carey were also viciously mauled.
"When it comes to couture chaos, this tacky terror should take a bow -- looks like an over-the-hill 'Lolita'," said the acerbic Mr. Blackwell, who has compiled his annual hit list of the rich and famous for 46 years, of Spears.
Next in his sights as a sartorial disaster was 19-year-old Olsen twin Mary-Kate, whose fashion Mr. Blackwell described as "bag lady rags."
Blonde bombshell singer Jessica Simpson, in the process of divorcing singer Nick Lachey, didn't escape lightly either, being damned by Mr Blackwell who suggested she "sack the stylist and divorce the designer."
Longoria took flack for her "gorgeous face, garish taste"; while Carey, in the midst of a triumphant musical comeback was lashed for her scanty attire.
"The world applauds your musical emancipation, but please, leave that body to our imagination," Blackwell pleaded.
Rounding out the top-10 worst dressed list were socialite heiress Paris Hilton, former Playboy pinup and millionaire widow Anna Nicole Smith, singer Shakira, teen actress Lindsay Lohan and Renee Zellweger.
"From overexposed, underdressed and over-the-top Pop Tarts to the beyond-bad bling-bling brigade, the fashion landscape was littered with a litany of taste-free terrors," Mr. Blackwell said.
But there were some saving graces in Blackwell's analysis of Hollywood's fashion sense last year.
Earnings spots on his "Fabulous Fashion Independents of 2005" list were actress Reese
Witherspoon, Kirsten Dunst, Kathy Hilton, Dionne Warwick, Ginny Mancini, Nicole Kidman, Carolina Herrera, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Moss and Natalie Portman.
"These women are a welcome sight as they glow and blossom with effortless beauty and memorable style," Mr. Blackwell said.
