The reference to Superman wearing his underwear over his pants will not be a joke anymore. At the recently concluded Morocco Fashion Week, top designer Gene Andy had models parade in jeans with the underwear stitched on top.

In March, celebs like Lindsay Lohan, Robert Downey Jr. and Paris Hilton were spotted sporting the trend. While the rest wore what are being called ‘Un-jeans’ to fashion events, LiLo went shopping in them. The trend seems to be catching on with Delhi’s youngsters too.

Our photographer Manoj Verma caught a bunch of guys sporting this trend in GK-II (New Delhi) last week. Street-side shop vendors in Sarojini Nagar, Janpath and Palika Bazaar (in New Delhi) have also started stocking the pieces. “Humein toh samajh nai aaya, lekin agar kuch bik raha hai toh hum rakhenge hi (I don’t understand it, but if it sells, we have to stock it),” says Neeraj Dwivedi, who owns a shop in Sarojini Nagar.

“It’s a bizarre but quirky trend,” says fashion designer Rajesh Verma, who explains that the Un-jeans are “best worn with matching collared T-shirts that are snug around the waist.” Says BPO employee Sahitya Sinha, “Maybe the Superman look is here to stay.”
