Underpasses, flyovers at 9 busy points to reduce jams

In a welcome move for commuters, the Noida authority has sanctioned flyovers and underpasses on strategic routes along master plan II and III roads. With this intent, the authority has set aside Rs. 3,000 crore for infrastructure projects.

In a welcome move for commuters, the Noida authority has sanctioned flyovers and underpasses on strategic routes along master plan II and III roads. With this intent, the authority has set aside Rs. 3,000 crore for infrastructure projects.

To make master plan III road signal-free, underpasses/ flyovers will be set up at five points — Shashi Chowk, sectors 51/34, 61 and 71 and Mamura crossing. Also, underpasses/flyovers will be built at four congested points on master plan II road.

“Signal-free traffic junctions at 9 busy stretches on these two routes will ensure seamless traffic flow for thousands of commuters,” said Sanjeev Saran, CEO, Noida authority.

In its infrastructure development plan, the authority board approved the underpasses/flyover projects, which were conceived during the previous Mayawati government.

“The underpasses/flyovers, whose detailed project report (DPR) were sanctioned by the Mayawati government has been approved in this board meeting. Now, work will commence soon,” said an official.

Apart from this, the Delhi government will widen the three bridges across the Shahadra drain that passes through Delhi and Noida, with an aim to decongest Noida roads.

“We will fund the project but the Delhi government will execute it. The road along the Shahadra drain will also be widened,” said the CEO.
Besides, the Noida authority will also spend on the widening of National Highway-24. Foot overbridges are also planned.

Rs. 5,000 cr allotted for infra projects
The Noida and Greater Noida authorities will spend Rs. 5,000 crore on infrastructure development in 2012-13. On Monday, the authorities approved a budget of Rs. 11,000 crore for the current year for various development works. The annual budget meeting has been delayed by four months.

The Noida authority approved a budget of Rs. 7,000 crore, while the Greater Noida authority approved Rs. 4,000 crore. The Noida authority’s annual budget has been increased by upto 40% against last year’s Rs. 5,000 crore. It approved a budget of Rs. 2,500 for land acquisition for the ongoing financial year. Further, the authority approved Rs. 100 crore for upgradation of its sewer treatment technology. The CEO said Rs. 150 crore has been earmarked for the district hospital in Noida, while Rs. 87 crore has been set aside for Ganga water supply.
