World keeps an eye on Indian fashion

The ongoing India Fashion Week in Delhi is being attended by several international designers and top retail outlets, an indication that the global fashion industry is keeping a close watch on its Indian counterpart.

The ongoing India Fashion Week in Delhi is being attended by several international designers and top retail outlets, an indication that the global fashion industry is keeping a close watch on its Indian counterpart.

The presence of outlets like Selfridges, Harrods and internationally reputed designers will shape the opinions on Indian fashion Industry worldwide.

"I come here with an open mind and will look for something inspirational, uniquely Indian and also very commercial at the same time", Elizabeth Bedersen of Selfridges, a top international fashion outlet said.

And business prospects is upper most in the minds of these designers.

"We are looking at the trend, the colour, the embellishments and the Indian style and find what is saleable in Europe", she said.

Selfridges is participating at LIFW for the first time along with other buyers from abroad.

Stephane Plassier, a well known French designer of inner wear said that platform like LIFW is necessary for international designers and buyers to come, communicate and sell.

"I feel this is an opportunity to meet Indian desgners. It is important to see first and then make a proposition", he said.

"More you show the design, more you sell. Important thing is to communicate the talent and to organise it".

Praising Indian fashion, Plassier said, "I saw some shows and the Indian style appeared very interesting. The work done in the fabric, the embroidery is very rich."

Plassier who has already seen some of the collection of designers like Ritu Kumar at LIFW said that he was impressed by the style.

"I should say that watching their collection was a interesting experience. They are very talented", he said.

He said, "at the end of the week I might decide to work with some designers here".
