Two shops in BCM Heights - a residential-cum-commercial complex at Indore’s Vijayanagar area - were gutted in a blaze on Tuesday.
The exact reason behind the fire at ‘Ojaswi Crafts’ and ‘Goldy Icecreams’ is yet to be known. The fire was first noticed by an employee with one of the shops who came to open it in the morning.
Soon after he lifted the shutter, a cloud of smoke started coming out from inside, a witness said, adding that a thick smoke soon engulfed the 10-storied building.
“We were trying to douse the fire since 7 am, but unable to control it as fire extinguishers failed to stop it from spreading. We then called the fire service,” said Ashutosh Bhomiya, the owner of a shop in the complex.
“A shot circuit could be the reason behind the fire,” Bhomiya claimed.
Fire department official Shivnarayan Sharma said, ‘We got a call at 8 am and dispatched two fire tenders and two water tankers to the spot. It took us two hours to bring the blaze under control.”
Fridge, microwave and artificial jewelries were destroyed in the fire, a shop owner said.
The police and fire departments refused to comment on the cause behind the fire, saying the matter was under investigation.
