"We have booked Ranvijay Singh Gahlot under sections 354 (molestation) and 504 and investigation is going on," said SP rail, Jhansi division, RB Saroj.

Inspector GRP, Manikpur railway station, Bhuvnesh Pandey told HT, "According to the identity card, the accused is posted in Gorakhpur as TC in commercial department. We have seized his ID card."

However, Arvind Kumar, chief commercial manager north-eastern (NE) railway, Gorakhpur, said according to the information they have been able to gather so far, there is no such person who is posted in Gorakhpur. "We are trying to find out who exactly he is. We have asked for the identity card and FIR," he said.

The two sisters were travelling from Varanasi to Gwalior on Bundelkhand Express with their family. At 10:30pm, when one of them went to the washroom, Ranvijay Singh tried to molest her, hitting her on the chest. According to the girl, Singh was drunk at that time and she thought it might have been a mistake.

However, an hour later, when the girl went to the washroom again with her sister, he followed them and molested them. When the girls resisted, he hid in the bathroom.

"We called the ticket collector of the train, Babu Lal, but he tried to suppress the matter as the accused claimed that he was a TC. Emboldened by the support, the accused started abusing us and threatened to kill us. But a woman passenger in the train supported us and TC Babu Lal had to act," the victim told Hindustan Times.

By then, many passengers got up and even though the GRP constables were not keen to act, they were forced to act because of the angry passengers, the victim said.

When the train reached Manikpur railway station around 1am, an FIR was lodged against the accused.
