Union minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on Sunday said Rajasthan is a BJP bastion and this time the party will return to power on the back of work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function held at Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur.

“Rajasthan has always voted for BJP even when the party’s presence was very limited across the country, and now that the BJP is ruling in 20 states, people of Rajasthan will definitely support BJP. Also, the people of Rajasthan have been watching Modi ji’s working style,” he said.

Replying to a query on Rahul Gandhi’s temple visit in Jaipur, Rathore said, “Jab mushkil aati hai to nani bhi yaad aati hai (when tough times come, people remember to do that).” Rathore said Rahul Gandhi was welcome to visit Rajasthan, famous for its tourism, and he (Gandhi) may find something new to see.

Rathore, who looks after the ministry of youth affairs and sports, said the union government has taken a two-pronged approach to develop sports in the country. “One is excellence wherein the talented sportsperson are encouraged to get trained with best coaches and no expenditure is spared. The second initiative at grassroots level is Khelo India, under which 1,000 sportspersons in 17-18 year age category are chosen and given Rs 5 lakh per annum for eight years,” he said.

Earlier, Rathore inaugurated a photo exhibition titled ‘Desh Ka Badta Jata Vishwas, Saaf Niyat Sahi Vikas’ at the JKL. Jaipur MP Ramcharan Bohra was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Rathore said students should not confine themselves to just acquiring knowledge. “The knowledge acquired should be effectively used for the progress of the nation. It is not at all necessary to hold a big post to speed up the pace of progress. Even small efforts can lead to big changes and development,” he said, stressing upon the need to involve youth in the process of country’s development.

This photo exhibition is open for general public everyday from 10 am to 6 pm. Achievements of the union government during the last four years have been highlighted in the exhibition, organised on the occasion of Independence Day. Quiz competitions shall be organised daily during the exhibition and the winners will get prizes. A cultural show based on patriotism and folk culture will be presented everyday by the song and drama division, an official release stated.
