Union minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha and chief minister Vasundhara Raje inaugurated the Kishangarh airport near Ajmer on Wednesday. The scheduled flights for Delhi and Udaipur will start soon, officials said.

Speaking on the occasion, Raje said, “It’s a great moment for us that one more city in Rajasthan is up on the aviation map. The airport will give wings to the development of Ajmer and Kishangarh and will give a speedy and safe travelling option to pilgrims coming to Pushkar and Ajmer.”

Sinha said there is a huge scope of expansion of civil aviation sector in Rajasthan as the number of air passengers are on the rise. He added that the Centre was making efforts to provide better air connectivity to Rajasthan to boost domestic and foreign tourist arrivals in the state.

The minister said the government is aiming at providing air connectivity to all major cities of the state.

Later, at a meeting at chief minister’s residence in Jaipur, the chief minister urged Sinha to increase the facilities at Jaipur airport and promised full cooperation from the state. Civil aviation ministry officials were also present at the meeting.

Raje said that an improved civil aviation infrastructure will also boost tourism.

The meeting discussed increase in domestic and international flights, intra-state connectivity and enhancing facilities at Jaipur and Jodhpur airports. The possibility of starting helicopter services to connect historical places of tourist importance in state also came up for discussion.

Meanwhile, the Congress criticised the CM for her remarks on the Congress’ contribution in building the Kishangarh airport. “It was unfortunate that the chief minister at a public meeting said that the Congress only laid the foundation stone of the airport and it was the BJP government in the state and Centre that have built the airport,” senior Congress leader Rajesh Tandon said.

The Kishangarh airport will connect religious destinations such as Pushkar and Ajmer Dargah which record a large number of domestic and international arrivals.
